About SteelToeTools

SteelToeTools is a free hub of practical tools for people who work on jobsites and shop floors: calculators, safety document generators, printable toolbox talks, practice tests and short training courses. No accounts, no paywalls.

Why it exists

A foreman ordering asphalt, a safety manager issuing a hot work permit, a crew lead running Monday's toolbox talk — they all need the same thing: a correct answer, fast, on a phone, sometimes with gloves on. Most of what is available online is either buried in ads, behind a sign-up wall, or simply wrong. We built SteelToeTools to be the opposite: immediate, sourced, and free.

Who is behind it

SteelToeTools is published by LSEA SAS, a French company that also runs travail-industrie.com, a reference hub for industrial and safety professionals in France with hundreds of free calculators, document generators and training modules. The founding team includes a certified occupational health and safety professional with field experience in industrial and construction environments. Author profiles with real credentials appear on every guide and tool.

How the tools are made

  • Primary sources first. Formulas, densities, factors and regulatory thresholds are checked against OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910 and 1926), NIOSH publications, and recognized industry references (ACI, Asphalt Institute, ASME, ANSI, NFPA). Each page lists its sources.
  • US units and US rules. Everything is written for the American jobsite: feet, inches, pounds, short tons, °F, and federal OSHA as the baseline — with a reminder that State Plan states may be stricter.
  • Client-side by design. Calculators and document generators run in your browser. What you type into a permit or a JHA never leaves your device.
  • Reviewed and dated. Every tool shows its author and its last update. Found an error? Tell us through the contact page and we will fix it.

What SteelToeTools is not

SteelToeTools is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or authorized by OSHA, the U.S. Department of Labor, or any standards body. Our practice tests and courses are free study aids: they are not OSHA Outreach Training, they do not satisfy any regulatory training requirement, and no card, certificate or credential is issued. Our documents are templates that a competent person must review and adapt to your site. Our calculators give planning estimates, not engineering designs.

How the site is funded

The site is supported by advertising. Ads are clearly separated from content and never placed between a form and its result. Advertising does not influence what we publish or the figures we use.
